Cougar sports have a packed week this week! Girls and Boys basketball are beginning their regional tournaments, Indoor Track is heading to regional championships, and Wrestling is going to their State Tournament in Virginia Beach.
The Track and Field team is traveling to Roanoke College on Saturday, February 19th to compete in the regional championship. Senior Hunter Alley, who is competing in the 4x800m relay says, “I’m excited to run with the team and compete for the title.” Athletes and relay teams that place in the top three in their events will earn a trip to the state meet at liberty high school at Liberty University on February 28th and March 1st.
The girls are going against Jefferson Forest at 6pm in the PCHS gym to begin their regional tournaments. As of today, the Lady Cougar Basketball team has a record of 20-3. The girls are feeling great going into the first round of the tournament. “I think we’ll be fine for the first round, but the second round will get harder. Players will have to step up and play their role,“ said Keslyn Secrist. If the Lady Cougars win, they will go against the Louisa County Lions next.
The Boys Basketball team will be heading to E.C. Glass to begin their regional tournament at 6pm. As of today, the Cougar Basketball team has a record of 10-12. The boys are going against E.C. Glass with the expectation of winning. “I feel that we’re going to perform well. We’ve had a great week of practice. We worked on our defense to defend their big guys, the 6’6” guy,” said Josh Bourne. If the Cougars win, they will go against the Blacksburg Bruins next.
The Cougar Wrestling team will begin their State Tournament Friday at Virginia Beach, which will conclude Saturday. Four members will be representing Pulaski, Xavier Ramsey, Gavin Warner, Nicholaus Golden, and Evan Alger. Austin McNeil will also be traveling as an alternate.
Let’s wish our Cougars good luck as we close out winter sports!
